Door County, August 2021

We are staying in Beantown Campground in Bailey's Harbor located about midway up the Wisconsin peninsula.  Today we had a very nice brunch at the White Gull Inn with my cousin Gary and his wife Marna. So fun to see them both.

Afterward, we drove up to Gill's Rock the northern most part of the peninsula.

On the way back, we stopped in Sister Bay for afternoon refreshment and to be a little silly.

The next day we took a ride to Green Bay. We stopped at Renard's Cheese on the way and bought some fresh cheese curds along with other brick cheeses and stuff.  Then we stopped at Nicolet Memorial Gardens to visit the resting place of Cherie's parents, grandparents, and great grandparents.

Lambert, Cherie's maternal great grandparents (Mildred's parents)

Finally on to Lambeau Field and lunch at Kroll's Restaurant.

That night we went to a fish boil (poplular in Door County) at Pelletier's Restaurant.

Getting the water ready to boil

The big baskets for the fish and veggies

Right before the fish is done they throw kerosene on the fire to make the water boil over the pot.

Taking out the fish and veggies

Dinner is ready to be served

Ahh, a great dinner of whitefish, potatoes, corn on the cob with Door County cherry pie for dessert.

Two Rivers, WI 2021

Spent a nice 4 days in Two Rivers, Wisconsin where we got to visit with Cherie's childhood friend Jane Wagner Krueger.  She came over to the RV to visit and a couple of days later we went out to Tippy's tavern for a nice Wisconsin fish fry (perch) dinner.

We drove down to Sheboygan and met up with Cherie's uncles and aunts.

So good to reconnect with friends and family.

While in Two Rivers, we went and took some pics of the local lighthouses for Joni's friend. We also enjoyed dinner on the patio at Moore's Irish pub.

We also went to the Still Bend (Schwartz) house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.  It was a very interesting design.  The docent gave us a great tour of the property and was a wealth of information.

This may seem like an odd picture, but my parents had a clock just like this one and they wired a lamp to it and it became their alarm clock, when it buzzed the light flashed on and off.

Beautiful back yard.

Hayward, MN, 2021

We got into our campsite early and Kit looked up what to do/see in the area and found the SPAM Museum 13 miles away in Austin, MN.  So, of course, we had to go there! This is one of Graham's favorite foods.

Gotta love pork

Hi fiving the Spam Man

The restaurant around the corner had a SPAM menu.

The next day we were in Sparta, WI, where we got to have a lovely visit with my cousin Dawn and her husband, Gary.

Custer, SD 2021

We met up with Kit and Joni in Custer on August 6.  So we will finally start our cross country trip with them.  The day did not end well, as the camp host said he was putting us in a good spot down below in the campground. He failed to mention how narrow the road would be to get there and did not stop Graham before having him drive through the narrowest part. He should have stopped and helped to guide him through.  This is what happened:

Graham and Kit were able to repair the hinges on the bay doors so that we can open and close them and get to our stuff.  Good side of the story, no one was hurt.

So our timing in Custer is not great as it is the motorcycle rally for Sturgis.  All campsites in the Black Hills area are booked with riders from all over.  They close off the center of the streets for motorcycle parking.

Special parking at Chief Crazy Horse for motorcycles.

On our first day, we went to see Mount Rushmore and the statue of Chief Crazy Horse. Then we came home for dinner and went back at night to see Mount Rushmore in lights.

We took a drive on the Needles Highway, beautiful scenery:

Day before we left, we went to the wind cave:
