Well, we arrived in Waco on June 19, set up camp and then went to pick up Danielle at the airport. We were supposed to drive her back for the Fourth of July in Flagstaff.
A little back story: Danielle had been working her full time job at Northern Arizona University and part time at Walmart to afford her condo payments. She had been applying for several months for better paying jobs in the Flagstaff area, but without success. Usually get beat out by a candidate with more experience. When we visited her in April, we told her that we had decided that we would be settling down in the Waco area in Texas. We then went on our way to visit friends in the San Diego area. Danielle decided that she would see what the Waco job market had to offer. Before flying to see us on June 19, she had 3 job interviews lined up.
The first week we were in Waco, Danielle went to her job interviews. She had decided to go back to being a 911 dispatcher as that is where her strength lies. She went and tested with the city of Woodway and found out that the supervisor was very good friends with the supervisor of the city of Lacey Lakeview and had already told that supervisor that she could not hire Danielle because the City of Woodway was going to hire her. After testing and interviewing with Woodway in the morning, she went to her afternoon interview with Lacey Lakeview. Without even sitting for the interview, they offered her a job. Later in the week, she had an interview with the city of Bellmeade. After talking with the lieutenant, he told her that if she had already interviewed with Woodway and Lacey Lakeview, she probably wouldn't want to work in Bellmeade, but they would hire her if she wanted the job. She decided on Woodway, which is described as the La Jolla of Waco.
In the next few weeks, she finished her background needs and we started looking for houses. The housing market in Waco is hot right now and homes do not usually stay on the market for longer than 1 week. After putting in 3 offers and getting outbid on two, we finally found a cute little house in the town of Eddy, TX; about 20 minutes outside of Waco. This worked out really well for us, as we had decided to buy a piece of property in Eddy on 4th Street. So, we will be about 1 mile apart, lol.
Since the process took longer than we expected, we had to delay our trip with Kit and Joni. We are now on the road (August 2) and will meet up with them in Custer, SD, on August 6.
Stay tuned for our summer/fall adventure!
