Bedford, ME

We camped at Hanscom AFB.  Nice campground, we also stayed here after leaving NY in the middle of September.  This time it was hard to find open spots.  We thought the later in the season the easier it would be.  We are guessing people are taking advantage of the nice weather and camping as long as they can.

Graham found out that we were close to the Minute Man National Park, so off we went.  This is where the "shot heard around the world" was fired and where the Revolutionary War started.

Paul Revere and the Midnight Ride

The Hartwell Tavern, much of the battle was on the field outside.

Inside Hartwell Tavern they had docents dressed in
period costumes

Mile markers to Miriam's Corner from years ago.

Marker where British soldiers are buried.

The North Bridge where the shot heard around the world was fired,
Americans on one side and Brits on the other.

After the Minute Man National Park we drove to the Sleepy Holly Cemetery.  Washington Irving who lived in Tarrytown is buried in the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.  The cemetery had Artist's Ridge where Henry David Thoreau, Louisa May Alcott, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and Ralph Waldo Emerson are buried.

Walden Pond, written by Henry David Thoreau was
near so we ended the day taking a drive by the pond.

Henry David Thoreau pioneered the science of ecology and
is in part the stimulus of increasing public awareness and
respect for our environment.
