Grand Tetons

On Sunday, we drove through the Grand Tetons.  It was beautiful, you'll see lots of pictures in this post.

First stop, the visitors center.  Most of the exhibits were closed, but Graham managed to sneak in a few photos.

After gathering some info, we were on our way.  We started the loop on Teton Park Road.  Our first stop was Menors Ferry Historic District. Here we explored homestead and pioneer life in Jackson Hole.  As we walked around the exhibit we had a few snowflakes fall.

A replica of the ferry that took people across the Snake River.

Unfortunately, the Chapel of the Transfiguration was closed. They say that the best place to take a photo of the Tetons is in the altar window because it frames the tallest Teton peaks.

We turned out at the Teton Glacier point.

Cascade Canyon:
The fog was settling in from the snow.

A drive around Jenny Lake. We stopped here for lunch. The lodge restaurant was closed but the little coffee shop was open and we found a table in the sun to eat at.

The Cathedral Group:

We stopped in at the Chapel of the Sacred Heart.

Beautiful stained glass window. Graham took the picture by holding his camera against the outside window opposite.

They said Oxbend Turnout was a good place to see wildlife, however, we saw absolutely no wildlife on this drive. So on to the Cunningham Cabin Historic Site.  This is the oldest historic building remaining in the park.

The last stop before heading home was the Mormon Row Historic District.

Wapiti Village RV 9/25/20

It was supposed to be a short drive from Snake River to Wapiti but, with our luck it turns out that instead of an hour we drove 2 hours because of the highway and mountain driving.  We pulled in to the camp early enough to take a short trip into Jackson AKA: Jackson Hole.  We are camping 37 miles south of Jackson and when we made the reservations we figured it would be about a 1/2 hour drive in.  Surprise! It took us an hour to get to Jackson.  The traffic in Jackson was unbelievable.  It took 20 minutes to drive the 2 miles from one end of town to the other.  Guess nobody heard that the vacation season is over.  We drove by Jackson Square to see the antler arches and will go back there on Monday.  We went to the Visitors Center to find that it was closed due to COVID19.  Luckily, they left lots of maps and some magazines outside of their door, so we picked those up.  There was a restaurant in one of the papers advertising lobster rolls, so we thought we would do some East Coast time in Wyoming, lol, and we went there for dinner.  A couple of years ago we went on an East Coast cruise to see the autumn color and here we are in Wyoming and finally get to see the trees changing.

Cute way to advertise rafting.

Idaho Falls 9/24/20

We're doing an overnight stay in Idaho Falls and will leave tomorrow for Waipiti Village south of Jackson, WY.

We found a beautiful river walk where they use the water for their hydroelectric plant.

Hagerman Fossil Beds National Monument

Our outing for today was to the Fossil Beds in Hagerman.  We were appointed finding the visitors center closed, where most of the exhibits and information are located.  However, we made the best of the trip and drove out to the monument area anyway and found a site with about a half dozen exhibit signs stating that they found the Pliocene artifacts on the bluff across the way.  They also had Oregon Trail exhibit signs. That's why they call traveling an adventure, some days are good and some not so.

Cherie thought this person was full of themselves.

We think these are the wagon ruts.

We stopped for lunch at Bullets and Brew because the ad said they sold guns, ammunition and pastries and such, so we thought it would be interesting.  We arrived around 4 when they were just closing and we found that they did sell guns and ammo but the second half of their store was a coffee shop not a brewery. :(  they recommended that we go next door to the Riverboat restaurant where we all had Idaho Trout fish and chips.

Trout with onion rings.

Sharon found a map showing where the local falls could be found, so our next stop was to Niagra Springs. What a pleasant find. There were falls all along the sides of the hill in the park.

We found a trout hatchery at the end of the park.
